President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva departed for Italy on October 11, 2025, to attend key international events addressing food security and social development. His itinerary includes participation in the World Food Forum 2025 in Rome on October 13, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Notably, Brazil has recently exited the Hunger Map, as highlighted in the SOFI 2025 report released in July, underscoring the country's progress in combating hunger.

At the forum, Lula will also engage in the Second Meeting of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty at the FAO headquarters. This gathering, co-chaired by Brazil and Spain, will convene ministers, government representatives, UN agencies, multilateral banks, and civil society representatives in a hybrid format to evaluate the alliance's advancement since its launch in 2024.

During the meeting, the implications of the Belém Declaration on Hunger, Poverty, and Climate Action—proposed by Brazil's COP30 presidency—will be discussed ahead of its formal launch at the Leaders' Summit in November. Lula is also set to inaugurate the Support Mechanism of the Global Alliance in Rome, establishing an administrative secretariat with offices in Brasília, Addis Ababa, Bangkok, and Washington to strengthen the alliance's operations.

Additionally, Lula will meet with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, further emphasizing the social dimension of his visit. Upon returning to Brazil, Lula intends to address domestic priorities, including consultations on the recent defeat of the provisional measure on the Financial Operations Tax (IOF) and the appointment process for a new Supreme Court justice following Luís Roberto Barroso's announced retirement.
