Key details
Arapiraca, located in the Agreste region of Alagoas, inaugurated a new Convention Center on October 3, designed to significantly enhance business tourism and stimulate local economic growth. The facility, named after the late councilor Fábio Henrique, was funded with a R$10 million investment from federal sources, including parliamentary amendments, reflecting a strategic effort by the Ministry of Tourism to boost national tourism infrastructure.
The center spans 4,000 square meters and offers modern, climate-controlled auditoriums, support rooms, exhibition spaces, and ample parking, with accessibility features for all attendees. It accommodates up to 1,200 people and 43 exhibition stands, making it ideal for fairs, seminars, congresses, and corporate meetings. The venue also includes a café, a central garden, and a deck with scenic views of Lago da Perucaba, enhancing its appeal for event-goers.
The inauguration coincided with the city’s 101st anniversary and hosted the 2nd Conecta Contábil Ascontal, Alagoas's premier accounting event, which attracted 600 participants including speaker Pedro Cortella. Political leaders such as Mayor Luciano Barbosa and Senator Renan Calheiros emphasized the center’s role in driving business opportunities not only in Arapiraca but also in surrounding regions. Mayor Barbosa noted the facility's potential to improve weekend hotel occupancy, a current economic challenge.
Minister of Tourism Celso Sabino highlighted Brazil’s strong position in global business tourism, ranking among the top 20 worldwide and leading Latin America, underscoring the center’s strategic significance. The project is part of a broader federal initiative aimed at elevating tourism infrastructure in the Northeast, fostering employment, and generating income locally. Congressman Daniel Barbosa expressed optimism that the center would transform Arapiraca into a central hub for business events, shifting the focus away from larger cities like Maceió.
