Brazilian Government Endorses Campinas National Quantum Technologies Hub Initiative

The Brazilian federal government has expressed strong support for the proposal to establish a National Quantum Technologies Hub in Campinas, a major stride in advancing the country’s quantum technology capabilities. On July 20, 2026, a delegation led by Campinas Mayor Dário Saadi presented this initiative in Brasília, highlighting the city's existing robust infrastructure and scientific ecosystem. Luciana Santos, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, emphasized the proposal's strength and Campinas' well-established projects and coordinated governance among local institutions that position the city to significantly contribute to Brazil’s national technology agenda.

The hub aims to leverage Campinas' scientific, technological, and industrial assets to foster development in quantum hardware, devices, sensing, micro and nanotechnology, photonics, cryptography, communication, systems integration, prototyping, and testing networks. Adriana Flosi, Campinas' Municipal Secretary for Economic Development, Technology, and Innovation, pointed out that the initiative originated from the local scientific and technological community, with the municipality playing a central role in unifying disparate stakeholders toward a unified strategic goal poised to impact Brazil's economy and technology landscape.

Daniel Almeida Filho, Secretary of Technological Development and Innovation at the Ministry, remarked that the proposal is timely and critical as Brazil pushes its national quantum technology agenda, reinforcing Campinas’ potential to accelerate advancements in quantum hardware and sensing. The proposal has garnered backing from key figures within public authorities, universities, research centers, and technology companies.

Further demonstrating the federal leadership’s engagement in science and technology, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to meet on July 24, 2026, with leaders in Brazil’s scientific and technological sector, including Ministers Luciana Santos and Leonardo Barchini, at the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC) headquarters in São Paulo. This meeting aims to address crucial issues for the country's scientific and technological development.

With consolidated local efforts and federal government backing, the Campinas National Quantum Technologies Hub is poised to serve as a national centerpiece for quantum innovation, collaboration, and industrial application in Brazil.
