The 22nd National Week of Science and Technology (SNCT) in Brazil is spotlighting the active engagement of public universities like the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) and the Federal University of Fronteira Sul (UFFS) in fostering scientific culture and sustainability education.

FURG will participate in the central event in Brasília from October 21-26, 2025, selected by the Ministry of Education (MEC) as one of six universities granted a physical space to showcase research aligned with the 2025 theme, "Planet Water: ocean culture to face climate change in my territory." According to Dinalva Sales, FURG's Director of Research, the university's involvement stems from an invited proposal accepted by MEC, reflecting the strategic role public universities play in Brazil’s scientific advancement. Alongside Brasília activities, FURG will hold local events supported by CNPq in Rio Grande and nearby municipalities, emphasizing scientific outreach and community engagement.

Meanwhile, UFFS showcased cutting-edge research projects at the Paraná Faz Ciência 2025 event held in Guarapuava from September 29 to October 3, part of the SNCT framework. Projects ranged from biodiversity studies of invertebrates to sustainable animal production and food technology innovations focusing on environmental issues. The event featured the inaugural Science Clubs Show, where 700 students presented 221 projects, fostering scientific curiosity and cultural awareness among younger generations. Claudia Almeida Fioresi and Professor Gisele Louro Peres underscored the significance of such initiatives in strengthening scientific inquiry and public awareness.

Together, these universities demonstrate Brazil’s ongoing commitment to integrating scientific research, education, and public engagement to address critical issues such as climate change and sustainability, nurturing a culture that values science at both national and local levels.
