Brazilian Women Entrepreneurs Gain Recognition Through Key Awards and Empowerment Programs

Brazil is witnessing a significant rise in recognition and support for women entrepreneurs, highlighted through recent awards and initiatives such as the Sebrae Women in Business Awards and the Missão Empreendedora program. These events are fostering female entrepreneurship across diverse sectors, from small businesses and rural production to food services.

In Pará, 13 women entrepreneurs were honored at the state stage of the Sebrae Mulheres de Negócios Award held on September 10, 2023, in Belém, with 318 participants from 86 municipalities, nearly doubling the previous year's registrations. Winners received trophies, certificates, and access to training, with candidates advancing to the national stage competing for cash prizes up to R$50,000. The event underscored women’s significant role in Pará's economy, where women constitute about 30% of entrepreneurs but still face challenges such as a 30% wage gap. Adriana Rocha do Nascimento, the winner in the Rural Producer category, expressed her excitement, calling the award a long-awaited dream come true.

Similarly, the 21st edition of Sebrae Mulher de Negócios in Ceará on October 8, 2026, attracted 321 applications, a 79.3% increase over the previous year. The event recognized women excelling in five categories, including Microentrepreneurs and Science & Technology. Leaders like Joaquim Cartaxo from Sebrae/CE and Eliane Brasil of Banco do Nordeste highlighted women’s growing entrepreneurial influence and leadership roles. Winners will also proceed to regional rounds with opportunities for monetary awards and further training.

Additionally, the Missão Empreendedora 2026 program, a collaboration between Pluxee, Abrasel, and the NGO Aliança Empreendedora, spotlighted 10 women transforming the food sector. This initiative received 2,547 applications and certified over 1,500 women nationwide. Ten standout entrepreneurs received R$3,000 each to invest in their businesses, with many identifying as Black women, emphasizing diversity. The program focuses on empowerment, business training, and facilitating commercial opportunities.

These efforts reflect a growing movement to empower Brazilian women entrepreneurs, promote economic inclusion, and bridge persistent inequalities in business. As initiatives expand, they offer critical platforms for recognition, mentorship, and growth across Brazil's varied entrepreneurial landscape.
