California Triumphs at Itabuna's 24th Interbairros Championship; Botafoguinho Wins Linhares Master 50 Title

Two local amateur football championships in Brazil concluded with celebrations highlighting community spirit and athletic excellence. At the 24th Interbairros Football Championship in Itabuna, held at Teatro Municipal Candinha Dória on August 15, Califórnia secured its fifth title, adding to wins in 2010, 2015, 2022, and 2023. Vice-champion Lomanto and third-place Mangabinha were also honored with trophies named after notable local figures Gilberto Moura and Danielzinho, respectively. The event celebrated the legacy of Luís Carlos Moreira de Matos, a former São Paulo FC player, for whom the championship trophy is named. Vice-mayor Josué Brandão Júnior underscored the importance of local partnerships in supporting amateur football, while José Alcântara Pellegrini, Secretary of Sports and Leisure, praised the contributions of local organizations and media.

Meanwhile, in Linhares, the Campeonato Municipal de Futebol Amador 2025 Master 50 category culminated on October 14 at Estádio do Vasquinho in the Interlagos neighborhood, where Botafoguinho do Interlagos claimed the championship with a commanding 4-0 victory over Palmeiras do Aviso. Marcos Fernandes, Botafoguinho's goalkeeper, was recognized as the tournament's best goalkeeper for key saves, especially in the final. Marcelo Oliveira from Barcelona do Interlagos was the top scorer across the competition. Municipal secretary Vandir Nunes highlighted the Master's category as a powerful example that age does not limit sports engagement, emphasizing the event's role in fostering community health and leisure.
