Ronaldo Caiado, a pre-candidate for Brazil’s presidency, strongly criticized Eduardo Bolsonaro’s acquisition of the green card, emphasizing the need for Brazilian producers to gain better access to the U.S. market without tariff barriers. Caiado highlighted the recent tariff hikes imposed by the Trump administration, arguing that it is Brazilian agribusiness producers—rather than politicians—who require favorable treatment to enter the American market. “Who needs the green card is the Brazilian producer to enter the U.S. market,” Caiado said. On a broader political front, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, preparing for his seventh presidential campaign, stressed the importance of national sovereignty and democracy. Speaking at the PDT national convention in Brasília, Lula warned against foreign interference—citing possible U.S. involvement in Brazil’s elections—and stressed the country’s historical struggle against fascism and political instability. He proclaimed, “We cannot allow democracy to suffer another scratch,” referencing past political upheavals including the 2016 impeachment of Dilma Rousseff.
