The Secretaria da Administração Penitenciária e Ressocialização (SAP) of Ceará recently hosted a significant meeting focused on the Intersectorialization of the State Policy for Violence Prevention as part of the Integrated Program for Prevention and Reduction of Violence (PReVio). This initiative aims to create a unified public policy framework to address violence through coordination among various state agencies.

PReVio currently operates in ten municipalities, including Fortaleza and Sobral, implementing over 30 projects that target vulnerable groups such as youth, families, and marginalized communities. The program is partially funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) with R$ 325 million, alongside an additional R$ 65 million from the State Treasury.

During the meetings, which last about two hours each and are organized by geographical regions to boost participation, the program's pillars, objectives, and the vulnerabilities it addresses were highlighted. A new digital mapping tool was also introduced, enabling state entities to document and collaborate on violence prevention initiatives more effectively.

Avilton Júnior, executive coordinator for Violence Prevention, stressed, "These meetings represent a crucial step for government sectors to align and enhance protection for vulnerable populations." Mauro Albuquerque, SAP Secretary, emphasized the importance of intersectoral collaboration and the prison system's role in rehabilitation and transformation.

PReVio's comprehensive governance structure integrates diverse public policies to effectively reduce violence by targeting social diagnostics and vulnerability indicators, marking Ceará’s proactive approach to violence prevention.
