Cold Front Hits Southern Brazil Bringing Rain and Strong Winds

A cold front that arrived over Southern Brazil last weekend continues to influence weather patterns on April 27, 2026, causing rain across the South, Southeast, and Center-West regions. This weather system is linked to an extratropical cyclone located between Argentina and Uruguay, which has generated strong winds particularly in the southern and eastern parts of Rio Grande do Sul state, according to Inmet reports.

In the South, rainfall intensity has diminished in Rio Grande do Sul, becoming isolated in its northern parts. Paraná experienced most of its rain during the early hours, and Santa Catarina faced the possibility of light showers. Temperatures vary across the southern capitals: Curitiba ranges from 16°C to 21°C, Florianópolis from 24°C to 28°C, and Porto Alegre from 10°C to 18°C.

The front has advanced over the Southeast, where cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are dealing with unstable weather and are forecasted to see moderate to heavy rain, especially in Greater São Paulo. Temperatures here range broadly, with highs reaching up to 35°C.

In the Center-West, Mato Grosso do Sul also faces unstable weather with scattered showers, while Goiás and Mato Grosso remain relatively stable. The Northeast experiences light coastal rain and moderate showers from Rio Grande do Norte to Pernambuco, with temperatures between 22°C and 35°C. Meanwhile, the North faces frequent rain with potential thunderstorms and weekly rainfall amounts between 40 to 60 mm, alongside temperatures from 24°C to 33°C.

The cold front's impact is thus widespread, affecting weather patterns and conditions across much of Brazil, signifying a period of instability and varying precipitation linked to the moving cyclone beyond national borders.
