Key details
Recent surveys and market forecasts indicate a significant shift towards a more positive perception of Brazil's economy. According to a survey by Ipespe released on September 29, the percentage of Brazilians with a positive view of the economy has increased from 37% to 40%, while those expressing a negative outlook decreased from 58% to 54%. This marks the first notable downturn in negative sentiment, with perceptions of economic growth rising from 35% to 38%. Interestingly, the survey, conducted between September 19-22 with 2,500 respondents, revealed that the most pessimistic group was the middle class, where 56% reported a negative view, compared to 40% of low-income individuals and 43% of high-income individuals who were more optimistic.
In parallel, the financial market has also adjusted its inflation forecast for 2023, lowering the estimate from 4.83% to 4.81%, as reported in the Central Bank’s Focus bulletin. While the inflation target set by the National Monetary Council is 3%, with a tolerance range, the market anticipates other inflation projections to slightly decrease for the upcoming years as well. Economic growth remains steady at a prediction of 2.16% for 2023, indicating resilience amidst broader economic factors. The Selic rate is currently held at 15% to manage inflation effectively, with experts suggesting it will remain unchanged through the end of 2025.
Overall, these developments illustrate an emerging sense of optimism within Brazilian society and the financial sector, which could influence consumer behavior and economic policies in the coming months.
