Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro Lead Brazilian Presidential Campaign Spending in 2026

Since August 16, presidential candidates in Brazil's 2026 election have collectively declared approximately R$153 million in campaign expenses. Data analyzed by CNN from the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) reveals that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of the Workers' Party (PT) is the highest spender, reporting expenses totaling R$65.7 million. Close behind is Flávio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party (PL), who has declared R$56.2 million in campaign costs. Together, Lula and Bolsonaro account for nearly 80% of the total expenditures declared by all presidential candidates.

In third place is Ronaldo Caiado of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), declaring R$24.2 million in expenses. A significant portion of these expenditures, nearly R$96 million, is related to third-party services, which form the largest share of campaign spending across candidates.
