Neymar Sent Off for Violating 'Lei Vini Jr.' in Santos vs Bahia Clash

During the October 24, 2026, Campeonato Brasileiro match between Santos and Bahia at Vila Belmiro, Neymar was expelled shortly after the second half began for violating FIFA's "Lei Vini Jr.", a regulation targeting discriminatory behavior in football. The incident occurred when Neymar covered his mouth during a heated exchange with Bahia's Rodrigo Nestor. Prior to this, Neymar had already been booked with a yellow card for an earlier confrontation with Nestor. Referee Sávio Pereira Sampaio consulted the VAR before issuing the red card, enforcing the disciplinary rule firmly.

As a consequence of the expulsion, Neymar is suspended for Santos' next match against Palmeiras on October 28, 2026. Rodrigo Nestor openly criticized Neymar's conduct, saying he felt disrespected and remarked that while Neymar remains an idol for his playing skills, he failed in his behavior as a person. This high-profile incident underscores the increasing enforcement of FIFA's anti-discrimination rules and highlights the tension between players in intense league matches.
