Key details
The Parque Zoobotânico in Belém has reopened to the public following major infrastructure improvements funded by R$ 20 million from Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI) as part of the Pró-Amazônia program. The reopening was marked by the launch of the exhibition "Um Rio não Existe Sozinho," which remains open until December 30 and is part of COP30's cultural programming. This exhibition, organized by the Instituto Tomie Ohtake in collaboration with the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi, features works from Brazilian artists that explore the urgent climate issues and the intertwining of art, culture, and environmental awareness. Minister Luciana Santos of MCTI, who attended the opening, highlighted the integration of art and science as a vital tool for popularizing scientific knowledge and confronting climate change. She also unveiled plans to inaugurate a 'Casa da Ciência' within the park to host MCTI events during COP30, further linking science outreach with cultural engagement. In addition to the exhibition, the Museu de Arte Urbana de Belém launched its third "Muros do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi" edition, transforming 2,500 meters of city walls into an open-air gallery with 19 murals by invited artists, reinforcing the role of public art in environmental education. Complementing these cultural efforts, the 69th National Forum of Confap has been fostering collaboration among science and innovation stakeholders nationwide, emphasizing the need for partnerships to drive Brazil’s science and technology forward, including initiatives in environmental research and outreach.
