Piauí Achieves Dramatic Crime Reduction Through Integrated Public Security Strategy

The state of Piauí has achieved a remarkable decrease in violent crime in 2026, particularly in homicide and feminicide rates, through a comprehensive, integrated public security policy. Government data reveals that homicides have dropped by over 70% along the coast and by more than 40% in Teresina, the state capital. Overall, homicides fell by over 38% across Piauí. Furthermore, feminicides declined sharply by 67%, with no reported cases in the first 20 days of March.

Governor Rafael Fonteles emphasized the policy's foundation on integration, intelligence, and ongoing investment. During a ceremony where new equipment was delivered to the Military Police, he stated, "It is a policy built on integration, intelligence, and continuous investment, which is beginning to show its concrete effects for the population."

State Secretary of Public Security Antônio Luiz highlighted the role of innovative technologies in strengthening the police response. Teresina alone has seen the installation of 15 panic button kiosks to enable rapid police intervention. This technological advancement aims to enhance operational efficiency and citizen safety.
