The Liberal Party (PL) is navigating internal tensions after former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro publicly criticized Senator Flávio Bolsonaro via a video, accusing him of mistreatment and humiliating behavior. This discord has sparked significant political stir, overshadowing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's re-election campaign. In response, PL president Valdemar Costa Neto, who interrupted his vacation to address the issue, is planning a direct meeting with Michelle aimed at fostering a truce within the party.

Valdemar emphasized Michelle’s critical role as president of PL Mulher, particularly for Flávio Bolsonaro’s upcoming presidential bid. He is working to persuade her that supporting right-wing candidate Ciro Gomes in Ceará pragmatically counters the leftist ruling party. Michelle, however, has advocated for a different candidate slate aligning more closely with her values, contrasting with the party's current strategy.

Flávio Bolsonaro has since publicly apologized to Michelle, acknowledging her contributions and influence among women and evangelicals. Valdemar also highlighted pragmatic alliances in states such as Paraná, where Sergio Moro is a gubernatorial candidate, as examples of the party's strategic direction. Despite speculation about Michelle's ambitions to lead the bolsonarismo movement, PL leadership reaffirmed Flávio as the chosen 2026 electoral successor, dismissing such theories.
