Projeto Soul Feminina Launches 2026 Gender Awareness Program at Tupi Paulista Prison

The Projeto Soul Feminina initiative has kicked off its 2026 activities at the Complexo Penal de Tupi Paulista, aiming to promote gender violence awareness and empowerment within the prison environment. The project, which began in 2020 and was honored last year with the ROMPA Award by the São Paulo State Court, is spearheaded by Judge Ruth Duarte Menegatti alongside the Public Ministry, Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration, and Penal Police.

Designed to challenge and prevent gender-based violence among incarcerated individuals, the program targets male offenders convicted of domestic violence, including femicide and crimes under the Maria da Penha Law. It encourages these inmates to engage in critical reflection and assume responsibility to curb future violent behavior. For female inmates, the focus is on fostering dialogue and empowerment.

Using educational materials such as 'Cartilhas da Mulher' and 'Cartilhas do Homem,' the project employs a methodology based on the 'Roteiro Único de Trabalho Humanizado,' emphasizing humane reeducation through non-violent communication and empathy. A multidisciplinary team facilitates the sessions, and participants receive certificates upon completion. The program also includes the 'Calendário da Vida' contest, where inmates create artwork and phrases related to gender violence themes; the winners will have their work featured in a calendar.

This initiative exemplifies Brazil’s efforts toward humane rehabilitation and gender awareness within correctional facilities, seeking to reshape attitudes and foster respect among inmates.
