Santos Nears Signing of Philippe Coutinho Pending Medical Exams

Santos Football Club is advancing in its negotiations to sign former Brazil international Philippe Coutinho, with a final agreement contingent upon successful medical examinations scheduled for September 9 in São Paulo. The club is cautiously awaiting these results, given Coutinho has not played an official match since February 14, when he last appeared for Vasco da Gama. Since departing Vasco, Coutinho has been a free agent.

The proposed contract offered by Santos is for six months, featuring a monthly salary ranging from R$600,000 to R$700,000, complemented by bonuses linked to match appearances and performance metrics. Should Coutinho meet the club's expectations, the agreement includes an option for Santos to extend the contract by an additional two years.

Despite the transfer window closure, Santos can register Coutinho for the ongoing Brasileirão since his previous contract was terminated, allowing the club to reinforce its squad immediately. However, Coutinho will not be eligible to participate in the upcoming Copa Sul-Americana quarter-finals against Atlético but could be registered for the semifinals if Santos advances.

Neymar, a close friend and former teammate of Coutinho, has publicly expressed strong support and eagerness to play alongside him again, boosting the club's confidence in the signing. Santos remains optimistic but emphasizes the importance of verifying Coutinho’s current physical condition before finalizing the deal.
