São Paulo Boosts Innovation and Sustainable Financing for Small Businesses
São Paulo institutions align for Innovation Week 2027 and launch a platform to help small businesses access sustainable financing, fostering economic growth and sustainability.
Key details
- São Paulo Negócios, CET, and Subprefeitura Sé plan São Paulo Innovation Week 2027.
- Empreender Clima platform aids micro and small businesses in accessing BNDES sustainable credit.
- Twenty small businesses will receive technical assistance under Empreender Clima 2026.
- Top three businesses from the program will attend COP31 in Turkey as Brazilian representatives.
A coordinated effort among key São Paulo institutions is advancing innovation and supporting sustainable financing for small businesses as the city prepares for São Paulo Innovation Week 2027. A strategic meeting brought together São Paulo Negócios, the Companhia de Engenharia de Tráfego (CET), and organizers of the Innovation Week to align plans for the event, which will be hosted at Praça Charles Miller. The meeting included prominent figures such as Alessandra Andrade, President of São Paulo Negócios, and Leonardo Ramos, its Chief of Staff, alongside CET representatives Daniela, Margarida, and Amauri, and officials from the Subprefeitura Sé.
In parallel, a new platform called Empreender Clima is offering micro and small business owners a pathway to access sustainable project financing. Developed by Sebrae, the Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Microenterprise and Small Business (MEMP), and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), the platform helps entrepreneurs prepare their projects for pre-qualification by the Fundo Clima Automático, a financing line provided by BNDES. While pre-qualification does not guarantee credit approval, it facilitates communication with financial agents and organizes business information based on technical criteria.
The Empreender Clima initiative also includes a Technical Assistance program selecting 20 small businesses for mentorship and individualized support, with the top three gaining the opportunity to represent Brazil at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Turkey in November 2026. Recent research underscores the relevance of these efforts, highlighting that 75% of Brazilian micro and small businesses incorporate sustainable practices, though only 36.4% have formal sustainability strategies in place.
These two initiatives exemplify São Paulo's integrated approach to fostering innovation and sustainable growth among small enterprises, through institutional collaboration and digital tools that connect entrepreneurs to critical financing and business development resources.
