Sebrae Champions Brazilian Small Businesses’ Role in Climate Action at COP30 in Belém

At the opening of COP30 in Belém, Sebrae, the Brazilian agency representing small businesses, emphasized the crucial role these enterprises play in the global climate agenda. This year's Climate Summit focuses on actions fostering a low-carbon economy and solutions specifically addressing the Amazon’s role in the climate crisis.

Décio Lima, Sebrae’s president, highlighted Brazil's historical leadership in climate discussions and the Amazon's central role in sustainable development. Lima stated, “COP30 is a major event for humanity, and for the first time, Brazil becomes the center of efforts to ensure a sustainable economy, essential for the planet's existence.” He praised Brazil’s government for spearheading global climate efforts and positioned small businesses as vital agents of the green transition because they not only generate income but also contribute to preserving the forest.

Sebrae’s presence at the summit is marked by an immersive 400 m² stand located in the Green Zone, showcasing the Amazon’s biodiversity and Brazil’s cultural and entrepreneurial innovation. The exhibit promotes dialogue, networking, and cultural presentations alongside regional cuisine, aiming to integrate sustainability, productive inclusion, and innovation linking small businesses, local communities, and global value chains.

This initiative underlines the integration of climate action with local economic development and leverages small businesses to foster a sustainable, low-carbon economy. Sebrae’s active participation at COP30 ensures that the perspectives and contributions of small enterprises are heard in global discussions on climate and sustainable development.
