Sport Club Internacional and Grêmio Honored for Advancing Women's Football at Prêmio Elas no Campo

On the evening of October 15, 2023, both Sport Club Internacional and Grêmio received distinguished recognition at the Prêmio Elas no Campo ceremony held at Teatro Túlio Piva in Porto Alegre. The event celebrated outstanding athletes, coaches, and professionals who have made significant contributions to the development and promotion of women's football in Brazil.

Sport Club Internacional was honored by the Porto Alegre City Hall for its vital role in elevating women's football locally and nationally. Several of its players, including Ingrid de Paula (Sorriso), Isadora Rech da Fonseca, Mariana Ribeiro (Under-20), and Lara Lay (Under-15), were awarded, along with David Junior, the Under-20 coach. Former Internacional athlete Ocléria Chiaradia (Kéia) was also recognized for pioneering efforts in the sport. Rosângela Campos, Internacional's director of women's football, emphasized the club's dedication to grassroots and professional development, noting the importance of fan participation in voting and the club's continued progress—especially with Beira-Rio designated as a venue for the 2027 Women's World Cup, marking the stadium’s third time hosting this prestigious event.

Grêmio was similarly honored for its commitment to advancing women's football. Dani Barão, a player for the club’s Mosqueteiras, received special recognition in the Professional Women's Football category through popular vote. Vice-president Eduardo Schumacher and women's football director Fabrício Fontanella attended the ceremony, underlining Grêmio's ongoing support for the sport. The accolade highlights the growing importance and influence of women's football in Porto Alegre and Brazil more broadly.

These awards underscore the vital contributions of both clubs to the growth of women's football in Brazil, honoring the athletes, coaches, and pioneers driving the sport forward as the nation prepares for the 2027 Women's World Cup.
