Streamer GH Issues Apology Amid Backlash for Harassment of Actor João Victor Gonçalves

Streamer GH, known as GH Rell RJ, faced widespread criticism after a live stream broadcast showed actor João Victor Gonçalves being harassed by a group at Rock in Rio. During the stream, GH made disparaging remarks about João Victor's appearance, which incited the group to follow and verbally assault the actor, escalating to a bag being thrown at him. The actor did not retaliate and hastened away from the scene visibly upset.

Following the viral spread of the footage, GH apologized, claiming his intent was "entertainment" and that his laughter was forced to engage viewers. He denied any homophobic intent, stating, "I was not homophobic with you. I referred to your sexual orientation," and highlighted cultural differences influencing his reaction. Despite the apology, GH expressed frustration over the harsh online backlash, including racist attacks against his audience.

João Victor publicly condemned the incident as homophobic and shared his fears during the encounter, relating the experience to his character Mau Mau's struggles with homophobia in the soap opera "Quem Ama Cuida." He stressed, "homophobia is not entertainment," and hinted at possible legal action against offenders. Support flooded in from celebrities like Gil do Vigor and Pedro Alves, who condemned the treatment of João Victor as cruel.

The controversy also triggered political involvement, with federal deputy Erika Hilton expressing solidarity with João and announcing plans to report GH and the streaming platform Kick to the Public Ministry for investigation.
