Vice-Presidential Candidate Alfredo Gaspar Faces Shifting Accusations in Controversial Political Case

Federal deputy Alfredo Gaspar, candidate for vice president alongside Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, is embroiled in a complex political scandal involving accusations of statutory rape that have seen multiple contradictory versions from the key denunciant, Luiz Antônio Lopes. Over the past five months, Lopes first accused Gaspar of raping and impregnating a minor while he was the rapporteur for a parliamentary inquiry into the National Social Security Institute (INSS). This claim led to a formal criminal complaint filed with the Federal Police in March, heavily exploited by government lawmakers.

However, Lopes later retracted his statements, alleging that the accusations were orchestrated by opposition politician Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ).
