  • • Siecesc-Carvão+ president presented personalized gifts to students, commending their efforts and learning about the coal sector.

Students from Roraima and Santa Catarina have recently gained significant awards at prestigious science fairs held across Brazil in 2025. Rosa dos Santos and Thamyrys de Souza from Escola Estadual Girassol in Roraima secured 3rd place in the Elementary Education category at the 40th Mostratec International Science and Technology Fair in Novo Hamburgo. Their project, “Intelligent Irrigation Control,” utilized Arduino Uno technology combined with soil moisture sensors and recycled materials to create an automated system that activates irrigation only when necessary, effectively addressing water scarcity concerns and promoting sustainability. The event featured 178 projects from 16 countries, offering the students a rich multicultural experience. Meanwhile, in Santa Catarina, two standout teams were honored by the Sindicato da Indústria de Extração de Carvão do Estado de Santa Catarina (Siecesc-Carvão+). The first team, composed of eighth graders, developed a project on environmental recovery, while the high school team focused on miners’ safety. The president of Siecesc-Carvão+, Astrid Barato, expressed gratitude to the students and teachers involved, applauding their dedication and the educational value of their projects related to the coal industry. Both achievements highlight Brazil's commitment to fostering innovative scientific research and education among its youth in diverse fields ranging from environmental sustainability to occupational safety.
