Brazilian Teams Dominate 2026 Copa Sul-Americana Round of 16 Matchups

The 2026 Copa Sul-Americana knockout stage matchups have been finalized following the conclusion of the repescagem phase, confirming 16 clubs for the round of 16. Brazilian football fans have much to cheer for as six Brazilian teams have advanced to this stage, the highest representation among the competitors.

The Brazilian qualifiers are São Paulo, Santos, Red Bull Bragantino, Atlético-MG, Vasco, and Botafogo. Santos secured their place convincingly by defeating Universidad Central de Venezuela with a 4-1 away victory and a 4-2 home win. Vasco also moved forward after a 2-2 draw away and a 1-0 win at home against Independiente Medellín. Meanwhile, Grêmio was eliminated by Bolívar, ending their run in the tournament.

In the round of 16, Atlético-MG will face Red Bull Bragantino, marking the only matchup featuring two Brazilian sides, guaranteeing a Brazilian team in the quarter-finals. São Paulo will challenge Bolívar, who had earlier ousted Grêmio, while Botafogo will compete against Peru's Cienciano.

Other round of 16 matchups include Deportivo Recoleta (Paraguay) versus Boca Juniors (Argentina), River Plate (Argentina) versus Santa Fe (Colombia), Olimpia (Paraguay) versus Vasco, Macará (Ecuador) versus Santos, Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay) versus Tigre (Argentina).

The matches are scheduled to be played from August 11 to 20. Teams advancing from the playoffs will host the first leg at home and play the second leg away. The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has announced it will release precise dates and times of the fixtures soon.
