Brazil is witnessing a renewed push to promote food science education and awareness through innovative academic and community initiatives. On October 14, 2026, Rádio UFOP launched a new radio program in collaboration with the Food Science and Technology course at the Federal University of Ouro Preto. Coordinated by Ilana Munique, the program aims to demonstrate the relevance of food science in everyday life by making scientific knowledge accessible to the broader community. Originating from Food Chemistry classes, the multidiscipline initiative now includes multiple subjects from the curriculum to provide comprehensive educational content. Six episodes are already available on UFOP CAST via Spotify, with new installments airing weekly on Radio UFOP at 97.7 and 106.3 FM.
Complementing this is the upcoming 1st Congress of Food Science in Minas Gerais, scheduled for December 6 to 8 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Graduate Program in Food Science (PPGCA). The congress will feature lectures, round tables, and presentations covering areas such as Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering, and Biotechnological Processes. The event also marks a decade of the extension project "Alimentando Conhecimentos," which promotes the democratization of scientific knowledge about food. Abstract submissions are open until October 16, reinforcing the event’s goal to bridge past, present, and future advancements and foster dialogue between academia, industry, and society.
