Dimorvan Brescancim Appointed Secretary of Science and Technology in Mato Grosso

On April 13, 2026, Mato Grosso’s acting governor Otaviano Pivetta appointed Dimorvan Alencar Brescancim as the new Secretary of State for Science, Technology, and Innovation (Seciteci). Brescancim, who previously served as the deputy secretary of Professional and Higher Education within Seciteci, is tasked with continuing and expanding the state’s initiatives in professional qualification and technical education, particularly aimed at integrating youth into the labor market.

Governor Pivetta highlighted Brescancim’s extensive experience in education and public administration as crucial for the role. Brescancim has a strong background as a federal public servant and professor at the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Mato Grosso (IFMT), where he was instrumental in establishing the Primavera do Leste campus and served as its director from 2013 to 2022. He also led the São Vicente campus of the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) for 12 years. Additionally, Brescancim served two terms as mayor of Campo Verde from 2005 to 2012.

His academic credentials include a degree in Agricultural Sciences from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) and a master’s degree in Tropical Agriculture from UFMT. Pivetta emphasized the urgent need for professional and technical education aligned with market demands, praising Brescancim’s ability to bridge education and practical workforce requirements.

The administration plans to maintain existing professional qualification programs while expanding access to technical courses, aiming to address workforce shortages and bolster Mato Grosso’s economy and job creation. Brescancim’s appointment signals continuity in the strategic direction of science and technology policy in the state, with a clear focus on preparing a skilled workforce for Mato Grosso’s development needs.
